General Notes on the Melton Family

The early Melton family clearly originated in the peninsula of Virginia between the James and the York Rivers. This area has been the battleground of three wars, and many early records of its inhabitants are have been obliterated. Although there is no direct proof of the earliest generations of this family in the extant public records, there still remains a considerable body of evidence which can be subjected to detailed analysis. Such analysis has yielded the descendency that is listed on this web site.
