Warren
Waid attended Bluefield College in Bluefield,
Va. After college he joined the U. S. Air Force. He was a pilot and served
in India and Egypt. When he returned to Roanoke, VA , after his military service,
he started work with the Norfolk and Western Rairoad in Roanoke, VA. After
a period of training that included several years as a fireman on trains he
became an engineer trainee and ran a coal train from South Boston, VA to Crewe,
VA. After about a year of being an engineer (trainee) he was made a full time
engineer about 1955. He then was on the Roanoke to Crewe, Va run and hauled
both passenger and express freight trains until his retirement.
He was married for
a short time and has a daughter who teaches school in Fredericksburg, VA.
