var title         = 'Pyrite Mine Hike';
var intro         = 'The Pyrite Mine Hike is one of the more interesting hikes in Prince William Forest National Park.  The two to three mile hike, depending on the route you choose, takes you to the site of an abandoned pyrite mine.  The sulfur in the pyrite was used for many products including the production of black gunpowder, medicines and acid.  No buildings exist today but the site has the the locations of the various shafts and many foundations which show the extent of the industrial complex.  Over the years water entering the then non-sealed shafts which were only recently sealed against water and the spoils areas which were not propertly cleaned up when the mine was abondoned allowed the sulfur to leach into the ground and a nearby stream creating a serious acid polution problem.  A few years ago a major clean up project was undertaken which removed this problem.';
