var title         = 'Fries to Fries/Galax Junction';
var intro         = 'This ride consisted of riding from Fries to Fries Junction where the rail line split so as to furnish service to both Galax and Fries VA.  Fries is a tiny town with minimal services.  This leg of the trail ends in a little park in the north end of the town of Fries VA.  Be sure you have what you need to service your bike and car before arriving at Fries.  They had a small bike rental shop that sold water, the only public source I found, and a fire station.  There are also other small shops but not bike related... at least not the ones I saw.  I asked at the rental place if there was a bike shop that could do repairs and the answer was that they rented bikes.  I guess that meant the answer to my question was no.  Parking is not a problem as there is a nice big parking lot at the end of the trail in the town park.  This end has pretty places but I wasn\'t impressed with the trail head area.  It is a town park that could have used a little sprucing up.  Fishermen also use the parking lot and the nearby New River seemed to be attractive to fly fishermen.  I saw several.  The trail on this end was smoother due to less horse usage. ';

var majorCaption  = new Array( 'The vehicular gate at the Fries trailhead of the New River Trail State Park.  The train tracks appeared to have been located on a small rise just to the right of this photo.  There is a small historical display located near the sign you can see.  The display was in less than great shape.', 'Fries parking lot is in the distance.  The railroad rails were once directly in front of me and the river to the left.  The gravel tracks are the route to the trail behind me and the parking lot ahead.', 'The New River has rapids in many places along this area.  Fishermen could be seen wading at Fries and other areas.  It appeared that they had little trouble going home with dinner.', 'Ah... here is the photo of the trail surface.  Where there are no horse hoof damage the trail is like riding on a pool table due to the surface being this very small gravel with gravel dust mixed in which compacts nicely and dries farily quickly after rain.  When I did that type of work we called it Crusher Run.  Makes a nice rider friendly surface for bikes.', 'Rapids north of Fries a couple of miles.', 'The trail beckons.', 'What are these flowers?  I guess I should know but don\'t.', 'What type of flower is this?  Send me an Email and if you are right I\'ll give you credit with your name right here.', 'I thought the mason work on this bridge was interesting.  Today all you see is cement', 'Flowers along the side of the trail.  This section appeared to have a lot more wildflowers.  Maybe because I did the ride later in the season.', 'Notice the surface.  There are some ruts but its not muddy and fairly smooth.  It had rained just a few days earlier.', 'For the boaters... notice this ski/fishing boat.  It is miles below the dam at Clayter Lake and can still safely run its outboard.  I also saw a pontoon boat tied to the bank in this area.  The bridge is the bridge that carries the trail to Galax from Fries Junction.  This was taken with the equivalent of a 250mm lens.', 'The same bridge at about 90mm lens length.', 'Rapids and a couple fishing from a canoe.  Fries is to the right about 3-4 miles.', 'The bridge at Fries junction that takes the trail to Galax.', 'The rest area at Fries Junction.  There were a bunch of people here but I failed to get pictures.  They were riding to Galax where they were staying.', 'Interestingly this was the only pasture land I saw with cows... I guess most of the land next to the trail is not flat enough.', 'Flowers... What type?  Send me and Email...', 'Mr. Woodchuck.  I saw this guy, a house cat stalking a chipmunk and a bunch of horses all near each other near Fries on my return ride.', 'The cat in \"hot pursuit\".  The chipmunk, which you can\'t see, did a U turn around the cat and escaped into the weeks. ', 'Can you see the woodchuck on the left?  This was before the cat took off.  See the cat on the trail ahead?  The horses broke up the fun.  Both the cat and the woodchuck took off.', 'This is part of the dispay at Fries.  The display needed some upkeep.  A little soap, a scrub brush and some elbow grease would have helped a lot but the text was badly faded and would probably have required that the entire display be replaced.', 'A section of rail and the bolts used to fasten rail ends together.', 'Fishermen in the New River at the park in Fries VA.', 'Another fisherman.  Right where he\'s standing the river was only ankle deep.' );
