This photo shoot was done on Christmas Eve of 2001. The ferry only carried one car on this eastbound, from Currituck toward Knotts Island, trip. It wasn't exactly a busy day.

Before the gate was raised a local car with obviously known occupants drove around the line of waiting cars and delivered a group of wrapped gifts and steaming food to the crew. It seemed a private moment so I didn't take pictures.

I thought this cleat with the rope wrapped around it looked neat. I took a dozen pictures and decided to keep one. The other end of the rope was attached to an unused anchor.
