Cat trees in pet stores run from $40 for a modest end table sized perch to $200 or more for something more entertaining.  I built this cat tree from plans I downloaded from the Internet.  This tree cost about $90 for materials plus the cost of the plans which were around $10.  If you have never built anything like this you will need a few tools and good plans.  I already had the tools and the plans I downloaded were EXCELENT.  They had enough detail that even after years of not building any sort of furniture I came up with a respectable product.
