Gene Horner of the 4th Inf Div Band and infantry camp atFSB Oasis (I think)
perimiterbunker127bandbunkersunset.jpg
The 4th Inf Div Band's perimiter bunker, Bunker 127 at sunset.
PleikVNstreetvendorVietnameseSoldiers.jpg
Street vendors in Pleiku VN with Vietnamese Soldiers. One of our guys ate from one of these vendors and got a tape worm that almost killed him. It was a dumb idea and against rules but...
ricepaddiesandvillavillage.jpg
Rice paddies and villa in a village. I think this was near Nha Trang Vietnam. We were on a sweep in a similar looking area but this is my photo and I never carried a camera on sweeps. The 4th Inf Div Band played several concerts in and around Nha Trang Vietnam
ricepaddiesNhaTrang.jpg
More of the rice paddies near Nha Trang Vietnam. The mountains in the background make me fairly sure this is the Nha Tran Vietnam area from one of the 4th Inf Div Band's trips to the area.
shadewhereeveryoucanfindit.jpg
At some of the LZs and FSBs shade and escape from the heat was where ever you could find it. The guy is one of the 4th Inf Div Band but I can't identify him.
shopsinPleikuVN1968.jpg
Shops in Pleiku VN ca. 1968. It appears the 4th Inf Div Band was traveling through Pleiku on buses or trucks.
Showmobile.jpg
This is a clipping from the Army Newspaper "Stars and Stripes" of the 4th Inf Div Band's Showmobile. I don't remember this so it may have been after I went home. The clipping and image is property of Gene Horner.

View down a side street in Pleiku VN ca. 1968
signalhillandourbunkerRAIN.jpg
Signal hill and 4th Inf Div Band's rally bunker in RAIN. Camp Enari Vietnam
skylinePleikuVN1968.jpg
Skyline of PleikuVietnam ca. 1968. Modern photos I've seen of this area show a very neat modern city.
SpcBrooksTuyHoaAFBase.jpg
Spc Brooks on the 4th Inf Div Band's bus at Tuy Hoa Air Force Base.
sunriseoverOrderlyRoom.jpg
Sunrise over HHC and Band's orderly room, 4th Inf Div Band on Camp Enari Vietnam.
SupportCommandChapel.jpg
The 4th Inf Div Support Command Chapel on Camp Enari Vietnam. This is where the Christmas music on this site was played and recorded.
SupportCommandHeadquarters.jpg
4th Infantry Division Support Command (DISCOM) Headquarters building on Camp Enari Vietnam.
tankapproachingnorthgateCampEnari.jpg
A tank approaching north gate of Camp Enari Vietnam in early evening.
tankcominghome.jpg
Another photo of a tank coming home to Camp Enari Vietnam. Probably the same tank and previous image
teaplantationnearFSBOasis.jpg
The drying building of the tea plantation on the way west from Camp Enari and Pleiku Vietnam while heading to FSB Oasis. This area was notorious for VC and an earlier battle. The 4th Inf Div Band was heading to FSB Oasis to play a concert.
tendingthewireunknownlocationmaybeFSBHighlander.jpg
Tending the wire. I don't know where I took this photo.
Touchetteandmailtruck_FrankBeardenwalking.jpg
Gaspar (Mike) Touchette in what I considered the mail truck with Frank Bearden walking toward the orderly room of the 4th Inf Div Band and HHC Company of 4th DISCOM
towerbunker.jpg
A tower bunker in the "Black Sector", the sector the 4th Inf Div Band was partially responsible for guarding. Camp Enari Vietnam.
towerconstructioncloseup.jpg
While we built a new bunker for the headquarters guys of DISCOM a communications tower was being constructed. The tower was later equiped with a light on top for aircraft... and to provide "Charley" with and aiming point when shooting at Camp Enari Vietnam. The base was huge so "Charley" didn't really need an aiming point.. close counted.
towerconstructionguyontower.jpg
Another photo of the tower construction. Note the guy on the tower. He climbed the tower and then hauled each new piece up by hand. The bunker construction project is in the foreground and the "Tin Can Castle", really the Tactical Operations Center, which the 4th Inf Div Band also did the laboring for is in the background.
trackmounted155mmHowitzersbehindourperimeterbunker.jpg
These track mounted 155mm Howitzers were behind our perimeter bunker. I only heard and/or saw them fire a couple of times but when they fired in battery they made the ground shake like an earthquake.
transportplaneCamRanhBay.jpg
A transport plane a Cam Ranh Bay Air Force Base. The 4th Inf Div Band played a couple of jobs at Cam Ranh Bay Vietnam
transportplaneCamRanhBay2.jpg
Another photo of the transport plane Cam Ranh Bay.
UH1cozyinguptofueldiaphragms.jpg
A UH1 "Huey" cozying up to a fuel diaphragm. I can't remember where this was, maybe Kontum but obviously the 4th Inf Div Band including "yours truly" was where this was.
UH1flaringforlandingHenselFieldCampEnari.jpg
A UH1 "Huey" flaring for landing at Hensel Field on Camp Enari Vietnam. I took this photo while the 4th Inf Div Band was waiting for our transportation to a job.
UH1withpeoplefinderonfrontflyingalongarroyooutsidewireCampEnari.jpg
This is an interesting photo because the UH1 "Huey" has people finder (Infrared Device) on the front. He was flying along an arroyo just outside the wire at Camp Enari Vietnam. We'd had some infiltration attempts earlier. This was VERY early morning with fast film and in a pending rain storm that resulted in a different chopper crashing into Dragon Mountain. Photos of that crash site are elsewhere on this web site.
unloadingtruckoutdoortheater.jpg
Members of the 4th Inf Div Band unloading our truck at the outdoor theater seen in other photos on this site. I don't remember this but it is my photo so I must have been there.
Villagefromair.jpg
A village from the air. I have no idea where the 4th Inf Div Band was traveling but it makes a pretty scene with the fluffy clouds.
waitingtoboardourbirdsC7As.jpg
The 4th Inf Div Band waiting to board our C7As for a job somewhere. This was Hensel Field on Camp Enari Vietnam. C7As were always flow by Army pilots. The aircraft didn't so much fly through the air as "swam" through the air. It was easy to get air sick on these things. To add to the excitement they also make VERY short take offs and landings. But nothing like the rocket assistance take offs the A.F. used on some C130s.
